the technology of modern Orthodontics offers multiple aesthetic solutions to achieve your best smile discretely.
You’ve put a ring on it- Congratulations are in order on your engagement! Alternatively you may be thinking of a significant birthday or a school/family reunion. Next comes a flurry of activity planning and budgeting for your milestone day.
Chances are that you have a vision of how your event will look. While thinking about it you may have considered that it is time to do something to change or improve your smile prior to being immortalised in the picture albums.
Naturally, you are concerned that a camera flashing at a mouth full of metal might not offer the most flattering result. Thankfully the technology of modern Orthodontics offers multiple aesthetic solutions to achieve your best smile discretely.
Aligner based treatment is the most conservative look of all alignment methods. It uses a series of clear plastic trays and attachments to straighten the teeth. Aligners can be removed for a short periods such as your event day however the attachments which are bonded to the teeth remain in place. These attachments are super small and tooth coloured making them difficult to identify with the naked eye. They are certainly not likely to be seen in camera photos.
Braces are bonded to your teeth for the duration of treatment. Although we have occasionally done it, braces removal is time consuming and costly when undertaken for one day and doing this will almost certainly delay your progress. If it is decided that braces are your best treatment method then perhaps clear braces might be an alternative you could live with on your special day. Although they are not considered to be quite as transparent as Invisalign, modern clear braces camouflage well with tooth enamel and can be temporarily paired with clear or coated wires for a short period. See below for images of clear braces and Invisalign aligners, can you tell which is which?
Consult with your Doctor -If you have a date in mind then your initial consultation is the time to discuss plans for a wedding or special event.
Allow Yourself Adequate Time For The Dental Treatment
Finally, it is important to be realistic about what can be achieved in the time available prior to your big day. Traditionally, full adult treatment can take anywhere between 12 months and 3 years. If however you have a shorter period in mind then a compromised tailored plan may still be achievable to provide acceptable results.
